I have this Dell DA310 USB-C Mobile Adapter and it is great. I use it to connect my laptop to a large monitor, keyboard and mouse while I am in travel. I can use my laptop like a desktop. I recommend you plug the cable into the adapter first and then plug the other end into your laptop. this way your guess will work if you accidentally disconnect the cable from the adapter.

I have this Dell DA310 USB-C Mobile Adapter. It work great for me. I can easily connect my usb and hdmi devices to my laptop. I would highly recommend it.

I bought two of these on offer, one Dell DA310 USB-C Mobile Adapter for my new Asus laptop and one dell – da310- usb-c mobile adapter for my wife’s new Dell laptop. They both work perfectly. No issues. They take some getting used to, but I didn’t want to use the cable for charging. You need to make sure that the cable is pushed securely into the USB-C port on your laptop and you need to understand that it will not work at all if it is not pushed in properly.
